The war left Mustafa, Areej and kids with profound losses, including the destruction of their home, the loss of their jobs, and the death of over 50 family members. They had no choice but to flee from Gaza to Egypt in March 2024.
Areej received a scholarship from Rutgers University to pursue a master’s degree in public health. She and the family received US Visas and came to the US in September 2024.
Rutgers is providing housing for the entire family. However, only Areej has a health insurance and meal plan. Mustafa and kids must purchase their own health insurance, childcare, and basic living expenses.
A group of six contributed $2,100 toward the health insurance costs for Mustafa and kids.
